How to Get to Dhermi, Albania

Getting to the town of Dhermi in the south of Albania is easier than ever — whether you're arriving by car, bus, plane or ferry. Here's a quick guide to help you choose the best route for your Albanian Riviera adventure.

Whether you’re flying into Albania or arriving by ferry from Greece, getting to Dhërmi is easier than ever — especially with the new Llogara Tunnel open. Here’s a quick guide to help you choose the best way to reach the Albanian Riviera.

✈️ Flying In

Most international travelers fly into Tirana International Airport (TIA), which is about a 2.5-hour drive to Dhërmi. You can rent a car at the airport or take a taxi — just make sure to agree on the price in advance, as taxis in Albania usually don’t use meters for long distances.

There’s also a new airport being built in Vlorë, expected to open really soon (summer 2025), which will make reaching the Riviera even easier.

⛴️ Coming from Corfu

If you’re traveling from Greece, the easiest route is to take a ferry from Corfu to Sarandë. From there, you’ve got a few options:

  • Rent a car and drive up the coast (about 2 hours)
  • Take a taxi — again, agree on the price beforehand
  • Hop on a bus — schedules can vary, especially off-season

🚗 Driving Yourself

Driving is a great option if you want flexibility and plan to explore the coast. The trip from Tirana to Dhërmi takes around 2.5 hours — a bit longer if you stop in Vlorë for coffee or lunch.

The roads along the coast are stunning, and now that the Llogara Tunnel is open, you can skip the old Llogara mountain pass and enjoy a much quicker, smoother drive. That said, we still recommend heading up there for lunch one day — it’s only about a 20-minute drive from Palasa View Apartments (or about 30min from the beach of Dhermi), and the fresh mountain air, pine forest, and completely different vibe make it well worth the trip.

🚌 Taking the Bus

Buses run regularly from Tirana and other major cities to Dhërmi. The trip from Tirana takes about 3 hours, depending on traffic.

If you’re flying into Tirana, there are direct buses from the airport to cities like Vlorë. While there’s currently no direct bus from the airport to Dhërmi, this could change anytime — so it’s always worth checking. From Tirana’s city center, you can catch a direct bus to Dhërmi, as well as from other southern towns like Sarandë and Himarë.

🚖 What About Taxis?

If you want something direct and stress-free, a taxi might be worth it — especially if you’re traveling with others. Just be sure to agree on the price in advance, since most drivers don’t use meters for longer trips.
