From quiet coves to lively stretches of coastline — here are our favorite beaches and who they’re perfect for.
One of the best things about staying on the Albanian Riviera is that you’re never far from the sea — and there’s a beach for every kind of mood. Some are peaceful and remote, others are full of energy, and a few are tucked away in places only a local (or a curious traveler) might find.
Here are our top picks — all within easy reach of Palase — plus a few tips to help you choose the ones that suit your vibe.

1. Gjipe Beach

Perfect for: Nature lovers, hikers, couples, and anyone wanting to escape the crowds
Kid-friendly? If your kids are up for a short hike, yes — just make sure to bring water and some snacks
This one’s for the adventurers. Gjipe is a dramatic canyon that leads down to a beautiful beach. The walk down from the parking area takes about 20 minutes, so bring water, sturdy shoes, and maybe a few snacks. Once you’re there, it’s all turquoise water, white cliffs, and a seriously peaceful atmosphere.
Tip: It can get crowded from mid-July to mid-August, especially in the afternoons. Go early if you want that “hidden paradise” feel.
There’s a small beach restaurant during the warmer months, but don’t expect too many facilities — and that’s part of its charm.
2. Dhërmi Beach
Perfect for: First-timers, foodies, sunbathers, and groups
Kid-friendly? Yes
This is one of the most well-known beaches in the area, and for good reason. It’s long, clean, and easy to access. There are plenty of places to eat, grab a coffee, or rent a sun lounger — so it’s perfect if you want to spend a full day by the water without thinking too much.
The beach is mostly pebbles, which means the water stays crystal clear. And if you feel like a stroll, there are smaller coves just a short walk away.
3. Jale Beach

Perfect for: Younger travelers, music lovers, and anyone who doesn’t mind a little buzz
Kid-friendly? Yes
Jale (or Jalë) has a younger, livelier energy — especially in summer. It’s known for beach bars, and during the day it’s a great spot to swim and relax. The water is stunning, and the beach itself is lined with a mix of chill cafés and upbeat spots with music playing.
Tip: If you’re visiting outside of July and August, Jale can actually be pretty calm.
4. Livadhi Beach
Perfect for: Families, chill travelers, and anyone looking for space
Kid-friendly? Yes
Just a few minutes from Himarë, Livadhi is one of those beaches that manages to feel local and welcoming at the same time. It’s wide, spacious, and has a nice mix of restaurants and quieter areas where you can just lay out a towel and relax.
There’s plenty of room even in summer, and the water here is calm and clear — great for kids or slower-paced beach days.
5. Grama Bay

Perfect for: Adventurers, boat lovers, photography lovers
Kid-friendly? It’s remote and requires a boat ride
Grama Bay is remote, wild, and jaw-droppingly beautiful. Tucked away on the Karaburun Peninsula, it’s only accessible by boat or by a long hike (we haven’t tried it ourselves though). But if you’re up for it, you’ll be rewarded with clear blue water, towering cliffs, and a beach that feels like it belongs on another planet.
Most people visit as part of a boat tour from Himarë or Dhërmi. These often include stops at places like Saint Andrea Bay and the Blue Cave, too.
6. Bonus: Hidden Coves & Secret Beaches

Perfect for: Explorers, couples, and people who want to get off the beaten path
Kid-friendly? Depends on the access — some require climbing or boats
There are dozens of small, unnamed coves between Dhërmi and Himarë that you can only reach by boat or on foot. Some of the more well-known ones include Aquarium Beach and Filikuri, both of which are small, peaceful, and a little tricky to get to — which makes them feel extra special.
A Few Final Tips
- Shoes: Many beaches are pebbly, not sandy — so water shoes can help.
- Parking: Some places require a bit of a walk from the car — check ahead.
- Season: July and August are the busiest. June and September are quieter, still warm, and ideal if you want to avoid the crowds.
