In just seven days, you can swim in turquoise waters, hike in the mountains, eat your weight in byrek, and get a glimpse of this country’s fascinating past and warm hospitality. Here’s a relaxed itinerary that covers some of Albania’s highlights — from north to south — without trying to cram in too much.

Cities Included: Tirana, Berat, Gjirokastër, Ksamil, Sarandë, Dhërmi/Palasë

Want an itinerary that also includes the beautiful north of Albania? Read more here.

Day 1: Arrive in Tirana

Kick off your trip in Albania’s lively capital. Tirana is colorful, chaotic, and full of character. Spend the afternoon exploring Skanderbeg Square or walking through the trendy Blloku neighborhood.

Good to know: Tirana is compact and walkable — and the food scene here is excellent.

Day 2: Day Trip to Berat

A UNESCO World Heritage site, Berat is often called the “town of a thousand windows.” Just two hours from Tirana, it makes for a perfect day trip. Wander its cobbled streets, visit the hilltop castle, and enjoy lunch overlooking the river.

Perfect for: History lovers, photographers, and anyone craving a slower pace.

Day 3: Head to the Albanian Riviera (Stay in Dhermi or Palase)

It’s time to hit the coast. Make your way south to the Albanian Riviera — the earlier, the better so you can enjoy your first beach sunset. Palase is a quiet spot with epic sea views and easy access to some of the best beaches in the country.

Travel tip: The drive from Tirana takes around 2.5 hours, even quicker now with the Llogara Tunnel open.

Day 4: Explore Dhermi & Gjipe

Start your day in Dhermi for a morning swim or breakfast and coffee by the sea, then head to Gjipe Beach. It’s a bit of a hike down, but the views and the peace are totally worth it.

Perfect for: Adventurous travelers.
Kid-friendly? Gjipe isn’t ideal for young kids due to the hike, but Dhërmi is great for families.

Day 5: Boat Tour to Hidden Beaches

Book a small boat trip from Dhërmi or Himarë and explore secret caves, coves, and beaches only accessible by sea. Most tours stop at places like the Pirates’ Cave, Saint Andreas Bay, and the stunning Grama Bay.

Day 6: Road Trip to Sarandë (with a Ksamil Stop)

Make your way further south toward Sarandë, with a stop in Ksamil if you’re up for a beach day. The water here is Caribbean-blue, and the beaches are picture-perfect (though really busy in high season).

On your way, take a detour to the Blue Eye (Syri i Kaltër) — a stunning natural spring where crystal-clear water bubbles up from a deep underground source. You can also visit Butrint, a UNESCO site, if you’re into ancient ruins.

Want to add some more history and charm to the day? Take a detour inland to Gjirokastër, a UNESCO World Heritage town filled with cobblestone streets, stone houses, and panoramic castle views.

Note: This day is definitely doable if you start early, but it can feel a bit rushed — especially in the summer heat. If you’d rather slow things down, consider spending an extra night in the area and splitting your time between Sarandë, Ksamil, and Gjirokastër. It’s worth it.

Day 7: Return to Tirana (or Corfu, if you’re flying out)

Drive back to Tirana (about 4.5–5 hours), or take the ferry from Sarandë to Corfu if you’re flying out of Greece. Either way, soak up those last views and grab a final plate of grilled seafood.

📍 Where to Stay on the Riviera

Palasa View might just be the perfect base while exploring southern Albania. You’ll be close to iconic beaches like Dhërmi, Gjipe, and Jale — but tucked away in a quieter area with unforgettable views of the sea.
